Try getting the Blizzard Staff. It can deal over 100 DMG per hit with the right equipment and it has the highest DPS (Damage per second) in the whole game, in terms of magic weapons.

Recommendation:
Build a long straight platform across the underworld, have good health potions, use a good ranged magic weapon or gun.
