Hey look! Random characters!

This was just... another exercise I challenged myself to. I felt like I was, sometimes, in danger of all my character designs being "essentially the same", so I thought I should do something about it; I drew myself up a sheet of twelve circles to make into faces, and challenged myself to make them all into unique characters - one trait at a time, to make sure I didn't fall into the trap of repeating elements that were too similar. So I started off, for example, drawing a different nose on each circle. Then different eyes for each. Different mouth. Different hair. Etc., etc.

Some of the results look... better than others!

But I think, on the whole, I'm pleased with them. Middle-bottom has become the official face of a character in Lauren's story who I couldn't nail down a design for that I liked; as soon as I finished the sheet, I looked at her and went "she's EXACTLY what I need for Jade" (that is, the bully who Gwen saves Ollie from). I also particularly like the leftmost boy in the second row; something about his design just clicks with me, like it works really well. I quite like middle first and second rows, rightmost third and leftmost bottom... second-middle makes me think of a genderswitched version of one of the friends I had at school, which wasn't my intention but is an association that I can't shake now!

I'm really not super-keen on middle-third, he doesn't look... interesting, to me? And I removed right-third because I just didn't feel good about how she'd come out... you know how just, sometimes something feels wrong about a design you've made, and you can't quite place why? Yeah, that.

Top-right looks like I just drew a variation on Jett from the cast of Lauren's story. Top-left and bottom-right boys look like useful designs for future projects.

And rightmost second looks like a mash-up between human!Pinkie Pie and Luna Lovegood. Which was ALSO-also not my intention, but there you go!

I didn't try and colour them completely. I just looked at them and applied colours where they felt natural; but if nothing seemed to immediately click, I didn't force it and just let it go. So that's why they're like, only 50% coloured!

All character designs are my own. Any similarity to other people, real or fictional, is completely unintentional and coincidental.
