Description
I knock on the side of our door."Wakey Wakey, eggs and bakey!"
Her lips twitch, but otherwise, she stays dead to the world.
I frown.
"Carmen, it's time to get up. Time for school."
Her eyes flutter open for a moment, but then they close and she turns her back to me.
"5 more minutes…"
I walk over to the old curtains and draw them.
Her eyes fly open as the light hits them and she hisses, pulling the covers over her head.
"Bleh…"
"C'mon, it's the first day of school!"
Suddenly, the blanket is thrown in the air and her frame flies out of bed.
"Hooway!"
I help her get dressed, giving her a pretty yellow dress with small flowers adorning it.
Her body trembles as I braid her hair.
"Something wrong?"
"I'm so excited!"
I smile at her, putting in pins to tame some of her hair down.
"Don't be afraid, Carmen. It'll be great. You'll make so many new friends!"
Her eyes light up as she looks up at me.
"Weally?"
My smile widens.
"Of course, everyone likes you! You're so bright and happy, like light!"
"Wight?"
"Light makes everyone happy."
Liar.
"Light brightens anyone's day. People love the light. It warms their hearts."
Certain kinds…
Her face brightens up, exactly like light.
"I'm wight?"
"You're the greatest kind of light there is, Carmen!"
Her hands clap together and her braid hits the sides of her face as she jumps around
happily.
"Now, let's go, Carmen. It's time to go show your new school how bright you are."
