Personality
+ Laid-Back | Cordial | Persuasive | Curious
= Introverted | Perceptive | Cautious | Simple
- Jaded | Devious | Lethargic | Disconnected
Rather than being apathetic, Poet is a hard one to excite. This bat finds conflict distasteful, jaded to the idea of right or wrong and finds the most enjoyment in the simple pleasures in life... Like teasing a neighbor or giving them a good spook. Poet would not go out of his way for the good of the people, but would not ignore someone in need if passing by. His laid-back attitude is fueled by a constant lethargy thanks to being a raging insomniac. It’s hard to find motivation for many things when you can hardly muster the motivation to sleep. That being said, he is surprisingly observant of people and his surroundings.
Intent on spending his energy as efficiently as possible, he is cautious of loud, crowded spaces. People-watching is not only a favored pastime but a way of life. Struggles to connect with people emotionally but strangely fascinated by their desire to do good and make change. Despite his introversion, he has taught himself to be receptive of social cues and buyer behaviors. Money talks, and Poet has his ways of talking back. When inspiration (and energy) hits, he can be quite persuasive. At the end of the day though, he is more interested in learning about people than anything else. Not particularly kind nor mean, Poet is only ever cordial in good company as he seeks to make new acquaintances and live vicariously through the well-rested masses.
History
Poet lived a quaint home-life with his parents and younger sister Muse. His mother Shandy was a seamstress, while his father Igor worked in the mines. During his school years, the young bat was never quite sure what he wanted to do with himself once older. That is, until Muse’s first day of school. Ten years his junior, little Muse had trouble mingling with the other students. She and Poet were quite close and Muse copied everything he did to a T, even the short crop of his haircut. Muse was consequently made fun of for her boyish style and shunned by many of the other girls. After some weeks of observing his sister's distress at going to school, Poet decided to take matters into his own hands. He bought her a hat.
It was quite plain, with only a small red ribbon to distinguish it from any other, and the only he could afford from the local hattery in town. Despite this, the other kids at school were quite jealous as the hattery was known for their unique wares, no two ever looking alike. Muse was thrilled and she wore her hat every day, still refusing to grow out her hair to be a little more like her brother. Then, of course, the hat became old and the kids began to poke fun once more. Poet could not afford to buy a replacement with every mood swing of Muse's classmates, but could not bring himself to sit idly by. He instead took an apprenticeship with the town's hatter, who would allow him once a month to make a hat free of charge to give to his sister.
Fast forward some time and Poet is finally leaving the nest to build a hattery of his own in a distant valley known as Idylwile. Muse is a little older now, not quite so dependent and twice as confident. Poet is hopeful that he can help others find the perfect cap to get them through the years just as she has. With a promise to visit home once in a while and send hats every now and again, this is when his own adventure truly begins.

Trivia » Eyes are light sensitive and he will always be seen in a hat and dark shades during the day.
» Insomniac. Ten times out of ten, sleep-deprived. Has a coffee addiction to combat this.
» Over time Poet may learn to associate auditory feedback to individual persons/objects, eventually recognizing them by sound alone. Good luck sneaking up on him : )
» His sight is actually quite distracting and hinders his ability. Despite this, Poet can still hear the footsteps of a cricket even with his eyes open. Bats amirite.
» Hoards fruit for no reason whatsoever. Maybe he thinks you’ll eat them all. Perhaps he’s inviting you to try-
» Cannot lift-off from the ground like a bird and must drop from a high place to fly.
» Got something on your mind? Poet loves a good story! Enjoys listening to idle chatter.
