I was introduced to Godzilla through an episode of the Animal Planet show Animal Icons, the episode was titled: It came from Japan. After that I watched my first Godzilla movie, GMK.

I honestly cant quite recall my intro, but I strongly think I might have been lucky enough that the first Godzilla movie I saw was the 1954 Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Now Im nearly 50 so I was familiar with Raymond Burr thanks to his old show Ironsides and while I prefer the original Gojira this American version still holds its water for me partly because of the seriousness Burr gave the project. He paid legitimate respect to the original and gave his character Steve Martin the sort of doomed gravitas the role required. 

I believe I saw it on a cable show called the Dr Shock Monster Movie Hour (even though it would obviously be longer than an hour) and I saw many wonderful black and white creature features thanks to that show back in the mid-70s.

Much like you I was introduced to Godzilla through Zilla aka 98 Zilla. At first though I didn't know much about Godzilla after that till my mom told me she saw the very first Godzilla back when it came to the sates back in the 50's, she says it scared her a lot cause she was real young when she saw it.

Again much like you, I love the 98 Zilla, still do infact, both the film and of course the awesome cartoon that followed the adventures of Zilla Jr.

But anyway, my mom told me about Godzilla, we looked him up and the minute I saw what he looked like, I was hooked. Well namely his 2000 and Burning Form were what hooked me...till I saw Kiryu and it's been that way since. XD
