Description
Our world is scary. There is no denying it. Some people see this and fear. I cannot say they are wrong to do so. But there are those who hide from their fears, hide from the world. They are fools. You cannot hide from yourself. However there are those that do not fear the world. They are twice the fool. The fearless are not brave. They are either delusional or just plain stupid.
The world is scary. Fear is good, it keeps us alive. But it’s no good being alive if you’re not living.
The bravest person is the one who has seen all the terrifying power in this world. Who has seen all the pain; and heard the anguished cry of children dying in the streets and is scared witless, but stands tall and yells a battle cry fueled by what they have felt to avenge and to concur.
Courage is not being fearless. It is being terrified, and going on anyways because it’s the right thing to do.
Courage is being so afraid you want to curl up and stop the struggle and you keep on going, anyways.
Courage is most evident in heroes who fight great battles, survivors of great tragedy, and victims of horrendous acts.
But courage is most present in the everyday, the commonplace. The unsure child, the loving parent, the wobbling elder.
Courage is in everything that has ever experienced fear because “Courage is the mastery of fear. Not the Absence of fear.” –Mark Twain.
