Description The forest emitted a cool, eerie, foreboding sense as the sounds of freshly fallen pine needles snapped under the light timid feet of a young maiden. Her body quivered in fear and fatigue as she moved her head about quickly at each and every sound, the sound of a wolf's howl making her jump. Her hands nervously going up to her light brown hair to push it out of her field of vision for the umpteenth time.

As she progressed she let out a squeak of fear when her long brown skirt became caught on a shrub. She quickly tugged it away and kept moving. The maiden maneuvered around the trees in the darkness, trying to find a way out of this dark forest. The sooner the better, it was well know for dangers. Such incidents were often told to children in her village.

She had heard the story of the wolf leading a girl astray and eating her. He left only a few bloody bones left for the family to bury and mourn.

There was also a story of a maiden who was ripped apart by the various creatures of the forest. Each then partaking in the maiden's flesh. They then celebrated as they drank her blood and sucked on the bones with relish.

However the one story the maiden had stuck in her mind was one she heard when she was very small. It was about a maiden as who was also lost in the forest. Then a wolf appeared grinning widely and saying to her,
"Hello my dear, you would go fine in a lamb stew!"
It was then before the dreadful beast could do any harm a prince on a shining horse came through the woods, slaying the creature. He and the maiden then were married and lived happily ever after.

She held fast to this thought of a prince saving her when she crashed into what she assumed to be tree.

" 'Ey! 'ho crashed into me?" a loud gruff voice sounded.

The young maiden was terrified to see the giant ogre turn and look down at her. It was no wonder she confused him to be a tree at first, he was about as thick as one and his skin was so scarred and scabbed it felt as if he wore bark for skin.  His teeth stuck out in every which way, thick clear drool dripping from each down his chin. He smiled a bit showing the rest of his browning teeth. He beetle black eyes gleaming with delight.

" 'Ello pretty pretty," he said taking his thick slimly crunchy bug covered tongue and running it on his dirt crusted lips and over his teeth. The combination being one of a partial brown, green and white smeared wherever his tongue ran.
"I like maiden meat," he said smiling so widely his small growths of ears perked up.

As the hulking creature reached forward to grab her, her senses finally kicked in and she broke into a run.

" 'Ey get back h're pretty!" the ogre shouted, the sounds of his running echoing through the woods and shaking the ground a bit.

She let out a scream in fear and exhaustion. Her body begging her to stop by giving her aches in her muscles. She ignored this and the sensational thirst she had. Water and food had not been in easy supply that day either, contributing to her tiredness.

The maiden moved through small gaps in trees, each time hearing the ogre chasing her grunt in dismay at the inconvenience. She kept running, tears streaming down her eyes from the terror. She then took a sharp turn to prevent hitting a tree and tripped over a log.

Her entire world whirred around her as she fell down the slope the log had marked the start of. Finally when she came to rest she noticed the ogre was no longer chasing her. She stood only to fall over in pain from her ankle that sprained during her fall. She sat up huffing, a redness coming to her cheeks in exhaustion.

A figure then approached, his hair thick and lustrous and his skin a smooth tan. His boots padding quietly as he made his way to the maiden.

She looked up at him, her vision blurring a bit from exhaustion and tears. "Are you my Prince?" she asked. "You must help me, I am alone and very frightened…a girl like me would easily become stew for the wolves and ogres here," she pleaded.

The man then put a finger to her lips. "Shhh, rest," he said softly.

The maiden looked up at him hopefully and laid her head down and closing her eyes and sleeping.

The man then sighed and looked down at her. He ran his dirt-dusted hand through his hair. "Not all wolves will make stew," he said frowning. He then smiled a bit with glee.  "We like to eat the meat rare sometimes too."

He knelt and smelled her, moving his nose to her head down to her legs. He licked his lips a bit opening his mouth to take a bite into her throat when he realized something. He looked over the body again to see the swelling in maiden's ankle.

"Eating a lame lamb is just…sad," he said sighing.

He stood and looked her over again. She was so peaceful as she slept. He shook his head letting out another sigh. He then walked around in a few circles and laid down right beside her.  As the sun came up the wolf stood and bound off into the forest, leaving the maiden.
