Description
Noriko (pictured) and Nanahara came from the same Petco... and the same cup, for that matter. Apparently, a store patron thought it would be really funny to watch two bettas fight one another. Fish fighting is cruel enough when the animals are specifically bred and conditioned for the blood sport, but at least they are well cared for; pitting two cold, sickly, overcrowded, poorly-bred bettas against one another is an act so abhorrent that even professional betta fighters frown upon it. These two were lucky they didn't die.Noriko sustained the most damage, missing most of his tail and large portions of other fins, and had many deep, ugly bite wounds on his face and body. However, as you can see from this lovely portrait, he is feeling much better these days ^^

Would you mind if i used this as a ref? I'm glad to see someone who cares about animals like that. it disgusts me how people treat animals these days.

The sad part is, if you buy these fish, from petco or walmart you send the message that they're selling those fish, and simply restock them. It's a hard thing to do, but resist it! It's a sad thing and I wish people would realize bettas like any other fish need proper homes and treatment. (except minnows, my fish eats those :3)

That's such a great shot. I love bettas..they are beautiful.
The one I have now though is dying from dropsy. I didn't catch it in time. I thought he was suffering from constipation.

What a gorgeous betta. I have one as well; he is a red male and I named him Vincent.
A couple months ago, some girls at my college decided they didn't want to take their bettas home over Christmas break. They were going to let the fish kill each other so I told them I would take the fish and I gave them away as Christmas gifts (to responsible owners).

I have seen this done before as well, someone putting two males together in their small cups. The other person with me bought the two of them to rescue them and get them back to good health. Glad to see you've done the same thing
I love these fish, they are so beautiful. I have had bettas for the past 5 years or so, and they are such wonderful fish! Also, very nice shot! I have yet to get a nice photo of my fish like this.

I'm a breeder & I cant stand how large chains treat thier livestock. Having worked in a few in my time I know first hand that many dont much care for their peices of meat with a price tag
Lovely picture though, love that black masking

i agree that fish fighting is disgusting. bettas like to be alone more anyway. i mean, my brother had one in a big tank full of tetras (they didn't fight) and the betta didn't really seem much happier or more sad, he just did his little drifty flowy thing.
