I scan my drawings in 2 parts (my scanner isn't big enough); I keep a paper between my hand and the drawing to ensure less unneccisary smudging.

The though of blend with fingers tips is like nails on a chalkboard to me!
I use tissue and q-tips and yes, they were dirty afterwards.
