There are very many great artists and artworks on this website. Everyday I get to see something that impresses me, and some works really take my breath away.

But it's rare to see a work that's not just beautiful, not just a work of genius, but an actual icon - something that defines an entire genre or period of art. I remember the first time I saw this image in a comic store. It's work like this that makes me want to be a comic artist, something I'm working towards this year.

the soft gradients work well with this. it's all very subtle. adds a lot of atmosphere without being obvious.
