i said i had faved it but i couldnt find in my fav gallery. so i guess something went wrong, not only with the comment but also with the fav! i'll make up for that now and fav it again, properly! And the original comment:
Now thats amazing... You deserve a lot more views and favs for this one than it has! I have no idea how you managed to get the texture of the whool so life like. Ah, I see an explanation in your replies! Still amazing work. A definite fav!
Thanks for the reply note by the way!

no worries you can buy it in powder form.. but if you dont have this what i do is use charcoal sticks and grind them on sandpaper to create the powder.. put it into a bowl and presto your ready to go
what i do then is do an initial sketch on some crappy paper so i dont have to erase on the paper the finished work will be on.. then i transfer my sketch onto the good paper.. just an outline...
then with your paint brush.. a soft one is best... dab it into the powder and brush it on your paper and get a good tonal range.. more powder in the draker areas and less in the lighter ones....
once you have this down.. get a fine willow stick or vine charcoal and add some details in.. then soften them with your paintbrush by dabbing the paintbrush on it....this keeps it nice and soft.. and then keep going until you are happy with how its looking tonally... then at the end add some details with the vine charcoal again and your done!!!
the sheep picture probably has about 15 layers.... if the paper wont let you add any more layers try using a bit of fixative and add more.....
remember though that fixative can dull the white charcoal if you use it so add you whitest highlights after your last spray with fixative...
i hope this makes sense and helps.... feel free to ask me any other questions
Naomi

Thank you it's explained very clearly so I think I won't have any problems :3 but I think there may be problems with doing this powder today and use it tomorrow (lack of time ;( ) so it'll have to wait, unfortunately...

no worries i just remembered also use some a kneaded eraser to lift off the charcoal if you want to lighten and also a sharpened click eraser is great for adding detail

Excellent charcoal rendering. Wish it were a little bigger though. Looks almost like a photo from the DA browse page.
