Aaliyah was born in a desert pride far north; a place where every lion was supposed to care for each other and provide for the pride in some way. For females, having cubs wasn't just a part of life - it was near required of you. Problem was that Aaliyah had struck a relationship with another - cis - lioness, Efua.
They weren't discriminated for being in a lesbian relationship per se, but constantly reminded of the fact their union could never provide cubs and they were too far removed from other lions to just... be able to find one to adopt. The constant reminder sent Efua's temper into overdrive, scrapping with her pridemates for some distance and respect, and Aaliyah feeling less and less like she was at home. The two decided to elope, and began a life far south, as a pair of rogues. Over time, they amassed a family of their own, had biological cubs at their own pace, and settled as a prideless family with good bonds to nearby territories.

Aaliyah's kindness, patient and nurturing nature make her a good mother, albeit a bit soft sometimes. Part of the reason she wanted to remain prideless was so she could roam, believing the world to be the most beautiful thing she's ever seen. She's very optimistic, bright, and refuses to let things get her down. It's not until the death of her son Joto Aaliyah's personality takes a hit, having her drift away in memories of her eldest cub and anxiety over what might happen to her other children. Efua is at a loss.

This is what I've been up to lately! Churning out reference images for all my characters; Aaliyah seems like a good first post. I have about 16 done, I need to write up descriptions for a good few of them. They'll come with time.
