Description "And ride with us young bonny lass ---
with the angels of the night.
Crack wind clatter --- flesh rein bite on an out-size
unicorn.
Rough-shod winging sky blue flight on a cold wind
to Valhalla.
And join with us please --- Valkyrie maidens cry
above the cold wind to Valhalla." --Jethro Tull

One of my favourite Tull songs gave me a vivid image to work on....I only hope I did their music justice!

When did I miss this one? Or did I forget it because I've been doing so bad? Either way This is amazing!! Especially the horse's ear, her face, and the furry saddle and boots.

Dunno, Froggy....maybe while you were sick. It's been a popular one, though...

Beautiful work raven! I love the light streaming in from the right.

Since you've got such a defined lightsource, you should play a bit more with the contrast, and make some of the shadows darker.

Thanks! Yeah, I may go back later and play with it a bit more. Sometimes, I just gotta get these things done first.

Oooooo! She looks so pretty! Beautiful shading and detail. I'm especially impressd with her hands. Yoshi yo! The lighting is pretty and has a very misty air.

Looks awesome!
Okay, now the nitpicking...her arm looks a bit weird. I know her hand is supposed to be reaching out, beckoning, and the hand would be bigger than the width of the arm...however, it looks like a short arm with a big hand attached. I'm not sure how I would explain how to fix it though. I'm sorry.

However, the horse PWNS.

Hands are tough. Hands in extreme perspective are even tougher.
You tried your best, though.

I'm getting better with hands, but I always seem to do weird angles that really force me to do things that challenge myself...

They're a bit hard to find, but there are some hand mannequins out there, similar to the full-body ones. Or another tip I've heard is to have a desktop mirror so you can see your hand from all angles.

Or you can borrow a book on drawing hands and draw every. Single. Hand. In there. <---- what I ended up doing

I'll typically go pose in front of the bathroom mirror...big mirror! The problem may be in the shading rather than the line art...I'll have to look it over tonight.

Victim of BMS--Bathroom Mirror Syndrome, eh? Join the club.
'Course, my sister has the room with the big honkin' mirror in it, but the lighting in there is horrible. Luckily I've got options and some reflective material, even if it's not a mirror.

Raven207b In reply to thenumber42 [2005-09-07 06:16:01 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's either the mirror, or force Boy to model, and he's not terribly cooperative at best...

Thank you!!

I took a few artistic liberties with the Valkyrie, like the wings...this is what all those horrid painting experiments were leading up to...but whenever I get artistically stuck, I start drawing on Norse mythology! Going back to my roots, so to speak.

Your roots involves Norse mythology? So, you are Scandinavian then?
