New Republic Starfighter command is getting more desperate to protect it's trade routes and hyperspace lanes from Imperial ambush. Grand Admiral Thrawns incursions continue to generate panick from member systems, who rely on trade to boost their economies. The mid rim remains under constant threat from fast hit and run strikes by flexible, mobile battle groups. Thrawn's grand strategy wears at the fighter pilots tasked with defending these convoys, the unpredictable method Imperial intelligence chooses targets has left fighter squadrons and patrol ships frustrated and unsure. Escort one convoy, and another gets hit on a different hyperspace lane. Squadrons rushing to the aid of distress calls find themselves either charging into a cloud of debris, with the strike force already gone, or rushing head long into a prepared trap. There's simply too much ground and not enough ships and personnel to cover it. Recently however, New Republic intelligence pinpointed the staging system from which a particularly vicious foe has been hunting N.R.N supply convoys. This lone vessel, identified as the Victory-class star destroyer "Annexer" was seen lurking in the mid rim. A-typical of these small opportunistic imperial strike forces, Annexer did not disappear into the outer rim and unknown regions after being identified. Instead she went to ground and is seemingly biding her time. Starfighter Command is anxious to seize the initiative from these small strike forces, and has given the green light for the closest X-wing garrison to prepare an assault on the star destroyer. The mood is tense as these brave X-wing pilots listen to the briefing Intelligence put together, identifying the Annexers captain, as well as the service history of her and the two fighter squadrons she births. Few members of this small garrison are under any illusions of an easy fight.
