Description A Mandelbulb 3D fractal.

Many thanks to DragonWinter [link] for this amazing DD!!! In my just uploaded Mandelbulb tutorial [link] you'll find out many tips and the exact rendering settings for this deviation.
As I know from my previous DD, it will be impossible for me to thank all deviants who will fave it. So excuse me, but I'll try next days to look out their galleries and fave back.

Ive never seen a fractal like this before. Its extraordinary. Its a bit like how Phillip Pullman describes the dimension of 'heaven' in The Amber Spyglass, except more dark/sci-fi/cosmic.

icthos In reply to raysheaf [2011-04-17 21:50:39 +0000 UTC]

I seem to recall he describes it as having more than 3 dimensions...6 or 7...and all the walls were slightly transparent. And parts of it were moving around within mist. Thats all I can remember. Wish I had the book at my house right now so I could read that part.

Oh wait I just found it.

"It reminded her of a certain abominable heresy, whose author was now deservedly languishing in the dungeons of the Consistorial Court. He had suggested that there were more spatal dimensions than the three familiar ones -- that on a very small scale, there were up to seven or eight other dimensions, but that they were impossible to examine directly. He had even constructed a model to show how they might work, and Mrs. Coulter had seen the object before it was exorcised and burned. Folds within folds, corners and edges both containing and being contained: its inside was everywhere and its outside was everywhere else. The Clouded Mountain affected her in a similar way: it was less like a rock than like a force field, manipulating space itself to enfold and stretch and layer it into galleries and terraces, chambers and colonnades and watchtowers of air and light and vapor."

The modern super-strings theory counts about 11 or even more dimensions, yet it's not proven, but is so beautiful, that has to be true. I'm always fascinated by beautiful descriptions of imaginary worlds. In my dreams I've seen colors, that for sure are not perceivable by the human eye and it's another amazing world. I'll reread the books too, good that I have them in digital format, only in another language. Glad we started such a nice discussion!

icthos In reply to raysheaf [2011-04-18 18:37:46 +0000 UTC]

Yes I am vaugely familiar with string theory...I only got to Chapter 4 in that Brian Greene book though! I find that my dreams are usually more vivid and evocative than reality too. Guess thats why people like us craft images. One dream I get that you might relate to goes something like this: Floating in space, with no sense of which way is 'up'...only the impossibly huge sphere of earth that I can see when I arch my back. I get intense vertigo when I sleep sometimes!

Hey if you decide to make an image of heaven as described by Phillip Pullman, there is bonus points in it if you can put a jibbering, beared, impossibly old god in there as well!

I read the same book and also some 3 parts documentary movie by NOVA. And I made also this deviation - [link]
As for dreams, there I'm advanced lucid dreamer. Had many years of training and seems also a natural gift since a child. There is a lot to explore and yes, the experience is stronger.
Will see what I can do, after rereading Pullman, already have some idea how I can shape out a God
It's a pleasure to talk with intelligent people like you and will put you on a watch!
Wish you nice evening!

I used to be into Astral Projection when I was in my early teens (got a few stories! [Did you ever see the red smoke?]...maybe thats whats going on when I get dreams about space these days...who knows. This evening Im learning an Arcturus song (For to End Yet Again) on my keyboard and its gone very well - Id recommend this band to you, they sound very cosmic. I didnt know that 3d fractals were possible until now. Some of yours are really bizzare and dont necessarily look like fractals - Steamroom almost looks as if it was sculpted in Maya or 3dsMax. I wonder if you can export them as 3d meshes.

Well, nice to deal with competent people as I said... Oops, AP is still different for me. No matter how sophisticated tools, MonroeΒ΄s Institute CDs etc. even a super guru/teacher from Germany I had and 12 years of study... itΒ΄s not easy for me. Sure, I succeeded at the 2nd year by just using a LD as a trampoline. As LD is easy for me and now I stay stable about 30 min lucid, that was the technique for me.
No, it's not red, but black smoke like the Nightcrawler in X-Men 2 for me. Yet AP deals more with the outside, while in LD we deal with our inner, but they are crossed often. I learned how to enter directly in LD after laying in bed (not always with success, but often) even bought myself a LD sleeping mask.
However and that's the interesting part - I found Russian LD revolution and a group called Dreamhackers. I entered late there at 2006, gees bad luck, could do it in 1997. Their site now is - [link] there is some section in English now (I speak very well Russian). So by their boos and workshops all changed. The fractal cityscapes gallery I did is an attempt to recreate some places I saw in my dreams, limited as formulas are used, but my tablet wasn't working since an year and today by miracle is working again, so will do more on the subject.
If you are interested can send you more materials by the Dreamhackers in English (I translated some for my teacher, next they translated some parts too). There isn't such thing like sect, church or whatever bullshit you can think off, just there is practices and whoever reads them can or can not use them. It's all freely published.
Sure I think, we should go in notes as this thread will soon be overloaded!
Have a lucid dreams!

I dont do Astral Projection anymore on account of the wierd stuff that used to happen. When I was a bit younger I didnt care, but now it just tends to make me uncomfortable. All that loud buzzing and being sat up while youre actually lying down. Seeing without using your eyes. Its not cool anymore...just unsettling.

I do have me a bit of fun with the Lucid dreams though. But I can only usually stay lucid for about a minute or two. And I can never really control it properly. To give some examples: I can only fly to a certain height and then I start loosing momentum. Or I can make a blonde into a brunette, but never quite a redhead. Haha.

Hey I just found out you are a professional designer like me. High five!
