The best way to command an elemental for your purposes is to use its written symbol. Above are some of the most basic symbols. However, every symbol requires something of the user to be used, and the effects can be visible over time if you favor certain symbols.

The Binding symbol works as a plus sign. If you put it between two symbols you will get a specialized reaction from the two elements. For example, fire + rock = volcano. Depending on what you use the elemental equation for, you can transform to become temporarily (or if you are much more experienced at the art of elemental equations) or permanently aligned to volcanic powers, launch an attack on someone by lava or varying eruptions, or defend yourself with a molten shield.

There are further uses for each element alone or combined (if they are able to be combined) but they are most commonly found used in fights or strung together to form the elemental cities and elemental creatures that dot the H.E.X planet.

One can discover another person's natural elemental alignment is by using the binding symbol twice on a small amount of their blood. The blood will form the shape of the element it is aligned to (as well as other things depending on the skill of the reader), which can be read and further manipulated.
