I worked on both of these Virgin River paintings at the same time

This is my latest painting, just completed this evening at 06:45 PM. I worked form a photograph and my memory from the time I delivered another load of insulated foam panel’s to the new rocket fuel plant being built about 12 miles west of Cedar City, UT off of Interstate 15 in the early spring of 1989.

That winter was a bad one, with outside temperatures reading as low as -65, and we were running on 24 inches of ice going up Interstate 15 out of Las Vegas, NV. We were running 70+ mph and the tires were trying to stick to the ice, then an early spring came in and snow and Ice melted and God’s beauty showed through.

Interstate 15 is an Interstate Highway, running from San Diego, California, United States, to the Canada–US border, through Mohave County in northwest Arizona. Despite being isolated from the rest of Arizona, in the remote Arizona Strip, and short in length at 29.43 miles, it remains notable for its scenic passage through the Virgin River Gorge. The highway heads in a northeasterly direction from the Nevada border northeast of Mesquite, Nevada, to the Utah border southwest of St. George, Utah.

The Virgin River Gorge, located between St. George, Utah, and Beaver Dam, Arizona, is a long canyon that has been carved out by the Virgin River in northwest Arizona. [1] The Virgin River rises on the Colorado Plateau and created the topography of both Zion National Park and the Virgin River Gorge. The Gorge connects the southwestern rim of the Colorado Plateau and the northeastern part of the Mojave Desert.

Interstate 15 runs through the canyon and crosses the Virgin River several times. The Virgin River Gorge section of Interstate 15 is one of the most expensive parts of interstate highway ever constructed. [2] [3] Due to the winding of the canyon, the highway within is also noted for its tricky driving conditions.
