On June 3, 1998, the ICE (Inter City Express) "Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen" derailed at this point. 101 people lost their lives and 105 were injured, 70 of them seriously. The memorial erected here consists of a concrete gate with a memorial inscription, concrete blocks for seating and another block with a memorial inscription and the names of the victims as well as a cherry tree for each of them. The train passing by in the background is an ICE. The speed at which it passes is no less than that of the train that crashed at the time.
