This is a submission for a contest hosted by Naughty Dog the developers of the hit PS3 series "Uncharted" and the long awaited new IP titled "The Last of Us". I took the original photos of Joel and Ellie and pretty much hand drawn the details with my Wacom Bamboo tablet. Every drawn line was drawn by hand. I lowered the opacity of the original images just enough to keep the shadow details intact to make the image have a better tone to it. My original idea was to have the background set in the city of Pittsburgh (my home city), since the game does take place in Pittsburgh but the only way I would do that is to actually draw all the details within the city. Time is running out for the contest (ends in one day), so I decided to keep it simple by keeping the image black and white with no background interrupting the focus of the characters. The game "Batman Arkham City" came to mind when I decided to keep it black and white. I really enjoyed the simplistic art style. Anyways, this was a fun piece to work with since I really did focus on the lil details, I never drew so much hair haha! I hope ND enjoys this piece of work as well as you.
