Have you ever seen an Australian-Canadian cartoon called Pearlie? If you haven't seen it, then I should probably explain what it is. Pearlie is based on a children's book series by Wendy Harmer, and it follows the escapades of a magical fairy who lives in a city park. Pearlie goes on wild adventures while keeping the park in order and trying her best to avoid being seen by humans. Her best friends are Opal, an Australian tomboy fairy who uses a magic lasso, and Jasper, a bohemian elf who's a bit of a slacker and has the ability to communicate with plants. One of Jasper's most notable traits is that he goes barefoot a lot. He seems to be the kind of person who believes that shoes are just not for him, and he often wiggles his toes to show just how much he enjoys being barefoot. I watched Pearlie on Qubo when I was young, and whenever Jasper was onscreen, I began to wonder something about him. I was about thirteen or fourteen when I first saw the show, and at the time, I also started developing an interest in boys who wore sandals or flip-flops. So one day, when I was watching Pearlie and saw Jasper onscreen, a little thought suddenly popped into my head:

"What would Jasper look like if he wore flip-flops?"

This led to me developing a little theory of sorts about Jasper. I began to suspect that the reason he goes barefoot all the time is because he finds shoes to be uncomfortable and wants to be able to wiggle his toes without restraint. I figured that if he doesn't like wearing regular shoes, he might prefer wearing flip-flops instead. I thought Jasper would look so much better in flip-flops, because they'll be the perfect kind of shoes for him to wear since he's usually such a simple, relaxed kind of person. They would not only complete his bohemian look, but also be the only footwear he might actually be willing to wear, since they won't give him any discomfort. I think he might enjoy wearing flip-flops, too, since they would give his feet plenty of comfort and freedom at the same time, as well as plenty of room for his toes to wiggle.

Flip-flops come in many different styles, designs, and colors, so if Jasper started wearing flip-flops, I imagine them to be green with black straps, as shown in the example above. I think they might go perfectly with his green shirt and belt.

In an old sketchbook I have, I drew a human AU version of Jasper, and of course, I gave him flip-flops.
