A cunning and rude leader of a small gang, Herman Schultz was one of the first villains Spider-Man dealt with. A month after his defeat at the hands of a young superhero, Schultz escapes from prison, intending to take revenge. To equalize the odds, he hires Phineas Mason, who creates vibro-shock gloves and a protective vest for him. He is now known as the Shocker, a dangerous and prudent supervillain.
