So I was assigned to jury duty this week. Fun right? Anyway, because I wasn't sure there were any good places to eat around the courthouse and because we had some really tasty leftovers from the night before, I decided to pack my lunch in a bento box. This is actually my first time making a bento, though I often packed my lunch myself from elementary into middle school. The right side is leftover beef that I tossed with a bottled teriyaki sauce and rice, and the left side is carrots and broccoli glazed in the same sauce and some mixed berries. It was all very good and I found the portions to be just right, but I'm a little disappointed with the visuals. Looking at it now, I feel like there was too much white. If I were to redo it I'd either use colorful cupcake liners, replace some of the rice with something a little less bland looking (tamagoyaki maybe?) or top the rice with something that added some color or contrast to it. There's actually still some beef left over, so who knows, maybe I will redo it.Related content

It's a very nice bento box! You did a great job. Especially since you had jury duty. I'm very sorry for that, but at least you have a yummy lunch to take with you!

It looks very nice to me! Maybe just seemed overly white because it's a black box on black(ish) counter? But for a super quick fix you could always cut off the tiny floret part of a broccoli and use it for green "sprinkles" on the edges of the rice?
