Description
This thing will make an eternal pause on enemy's life...This is walfasized Pauser SMG - a prototype Croatian submachine gun used by Croatian unlawful combatants.
The year was 1991. The dissolution of Yugoslavia left Croatia with little weapons to arm their troops in time for said country's civil war. An embargo prevented the newly formed state from legally buying weapons from across seas, which left Croatia with no choice but to design their own weapons, leading to the Pauser. A few samples were delivered to the Croatian Department of Defense in 1992, but were rejected due to the weapon's problems.
The Pauser is a very crudely-designed submachine gun with wooden furniture. It is based on the PPSh-41 similar to most other insurrectionist submachine guns manufactured in Croatia at the time. The weapon copies other characteristics from older submachine guns such as the bolt from the MP 40 and the pistol grip from the Heckler & Koch MP5. The weapon is also capable of select fire via a selector switch on the left hand side of the weapon.
In spite of the name, no parts from any Mauser weapons were used; Pauser is simply a corruption of the designer's last name. The weapon is also incompatible with parts from Mauser weapons. The charging handle on the weapon is located on the right and appears to be positioned vertically. Other than that, little documentation about the weapon exists other than the above.
