In the Hoboken, New Jersey manor house of Dr. William Magnus, the elderly scientist was in his in-home laboratory. He was fondly looking at his old battle armor, back when he was a spry young man in the 60s and leader of a team of heroes called The Metal Men, going by the code name “Alloy”. Platinum, a female-programmed android who he created as part of his new Metal Men, tended to her creator. Magnus told her that his time would be soon, and that he needs his creations to take to heart, as it were, all of his teachings about the latent good of humanity and how they need to defend them to the best of their ability. Suddenly, a call came through from Magnus’ main line of communication with the superhero community. It was Booster Gold and Blue Beetle, two members of the Justice League. They informed Magnus and his Metal Men, consisting of his androids Platinum, Gold, Mercury, Iron, Tin, Lead, and Copper of an attack directed at superheroes. An attack instigated and coordinated by a team of villains calling themselves The Society. Magnus ordered his team of androids to bolster their manor’s and lab’s defenses. So they did, making it as tight as possible. However, they didn’t make it airtight… Patrolling the manor, Iron began noticing and said aloud that he’s “beginning to rust”. An ominous voice echoed in his audio receptors, saying that “the technical term is oxidizing”. The metallic robots and the metal parts of their home and lab began corroding rapidly. The front doors were corroded the most and they were broken down! Through them stepped a team of five mechanical humanoids with glass domes for heads. Inside the domes were living gases with human-like faces forming in the fluctuating vapors. They call themselves “The Gas Gang”, and they’re here to destroy the Metal Men for The Society. The Gas Gang, despite being living vapors, had an advantage against the Metal Men for being able to rapidly corrode their metallic bodies due to that living, gaseous nature. Dr. Magnus retreated back to his lab as he was pursued by Chloroform, leader of the Gas Gang. Meanwhile, Oxygen and Hydrogen combined their respective gases into a torrent of water that flooded the manor, knocking about our heroic androids. Meanwhile, Helium launched darts from his robot frame’s fingertips that rapidly inflated struck objects until they burst and sent shrapnel everywhere. And Nitrogen has the power to freeze others to low temperatures through its gas. The Metal Men, despite outnumbering the Gas Gang seven-to-five, were clearly outmatched. Magnus got into his lab and pulled out an experimental gas-neutralizing device that can disperse the gas harmlessly, neutralizing the Gas Gang’s evil intelligences. But how to utilize it and defend his Metal Men? As Iron rusted and was getting punched to oblivion by Oxygen’s robotic frame, the other Gases reached the door to Magnus’ laboratory and were about to break through. That’s when Magnus himself, re-clad in his Alloy armor, shot a beam of energy from his armored hand that threw back the Gas Gang’s robot frames. Hydrogen was the first to attack Alloy, but the same beam, instead of phasing through his gas harmlessly, rendered him inert and essentially killed him. The rest of the Gas Gang battled Alloy and were each destroyed by him, except for Chloroform. His gas got into Magnus’ armor and into his lungs, but before he could pass out, Magnus cracked the experimental device he was using, and it exploded with the energy it was expelling. The Metal Men saw their creator do this as the flash of light destroyed Chloroform, destroying the final member of the evil Gas Gang. The Metal Men pulled the Alloy armor’s helmet off and stayed with their crea- their father as his perished with a smile on his face. The Metal Men, before rebuilding their damaged bodies, buried William Magnus alongside his deceased wife and daughter. After they rebuilt their mechanical bodies, the Metal Men set off to join the other heroes of the world in quelling this crisis.
