there's a movie quote stuck in my head that says we begin to long for something when we see it every day. the little stool looks pretty cool as i see it walking in darkness from the kitchen to my room through the porch, day by day - and so it caught my eye. as it is backlit by the light coming from my room, sharp shadows falling toward me are formed. as a fan of film noir look I watched these shadows in awe and decided to take two photos. a sharp "noir look" one (follows) and a soft "portrait" photo which you see here. i named it StoolGLOW, taking inspiration from the ARRIGLOW system from Arri. i needed to get the softness somehow, but my lenses are too sharp for that. so i got the soft focus look by exposing the chair for 20 seconds (long exposure times were mandatory since there was little light anyway) and counting to 15 - at this time i reached and grabbed the focusing ring on the lens and proceeded to rotate it through it's entire focus range (45centimeters to infinity) and got the glow that way.

50mm+ilford, i had to crop the photo on the top and bottom (in a sort of letterbox fashion), because the people at the photolab weren't careful enough and the scans were wrecked
