Luna is quite reserved and selfish, seems rude and quick-tempered, but she has a good heart and she's always ready to help. [Backstory]

Spottedpaw is an apprentice of Morningclan. She had feelings to medicine cat's apprentice Brownpaw and he had feelings to her too, but never told her about it. When Spottedpaw became a warrior named Spottedfoot, Brownpaw suddenly disappears from Morningclan. Spottedfoot goes in searh of him and discovers Brownpaw in an abandoned badger hole under the roots of a tree deep in the forest. Brownpaw says that he is ill with an incurable serious illness (cancer), so he left so as not to burden his fellow clanmates with his death. Spottedfoot promises him not to reveal his secret and upon returning to clan, announces Brownpaw's death from a pack of dogs.

Spottedpaw visits Brownpaw often, takes care of him, they spend a lot of time together and enjoy each other's company. Brownpaw finally confesses his feelings for her and a few days later Spottedfoot finds him dead. She buried him in the same place, under the roots of the tree. After that, she fakes her own death and becomes a loner.

Time passes and Spottedfoot is picked up by Twolegs. They call her Luna and give her a collar. Luna likes her new name, but prefers to hunt rather than take food from Twolegs and generally leads a completely independent life. She keeps at bay all the dogs in area and often saves other kittypets from dog fangs, even despite her selfish nature.

One day at the fence of her Twolegs house Luna meets a cat collecting herbs. She tried to drive away the clan cat, but she turns out to be so friendly and talkative that Luna dislikes her and discourages interaction. But the cat turns out to be very annoying and begins to increasingly enter Luna's territory, trying to make friends. In the end, Luna gives up and meets an annoying stranger. The cat's name is Snowstorm and she's a Moonclan's medicine cat.

They begin to meet often and walk together, Snowstorm shares events from her clan and her life. Luna suddenly realizes that she has begun to become attached to Snowstorm and is looking forward to the next meeting. Snowstorm secretly brings Luna to the camp and tells her about her clanmates, and Luna in turn helps Snowstorm with the collection of herbs and protection from predators and from warriors of neighboring clans.

In the season of bare trees in the midst of illnes, Snowstorm turns to Luna for help, because there is not enough prey and cats die of hunger and disease. Luna barely manages to catch enough food and together with Snowstorm they bring food to the clan. Redstar, a Moonclan leader, is outraged that Snowstorm brought the enemy to the camp, but she is angry with him and says that Luna is saving them. Luna continues to hunt for weakened cats and searches for the right herbs while Snowstorm heals her clanmates. Suddenly old Redstar falls ill and realizes that the disease will take his last life. Redstar calls for a private conversation his deputy named Grovefall and dies a few hours later. Having received her nine lives, Grovestar voices the last testament of the old leader and invites Luna to join the clan. After weighting all the pros and cons, she accepts the invitation and easily says goodbye to her collar, becoming a clan cat again.

Luna faithfully serves her new clan and shares with her friend Snowstorm not only sorrows and joys, but also a nest.
