Description Ch.2
Over the next year Mora and Zircal excelled in all their training. They learned to defend, fight, and win like true warriors. They were eager students and quick learners. One day, during one of their fighting classes, Mora was fighting another, more seasoned fighter. He often called out hints to her to help her perfect her fighting skills.
“Remember, keep your left paw up! A little higher now, that’s it! Now, strike out at me. Come now, don’t be-oof!” he found himself cut off in midsentance as the young vixen got him in the gut and as he doubled over, dealt an uppercut to the jaw. The big fighter fell over, rubbing an aching stomach and jaw. Mora instantly came to the fighters side.
“Oh, I’m sorry Galtag! Did I hurt you badly?”
“Oh no, I’m fine! Really! I have to say miss, you’ve got one heck of a punch! If you had hit any harder, I would have been knocked out.”
“Well, I’ve got a good teacher to thank for that.” The big fox laughed and said
“Ha! Even I can’t  punch that well! I think you and Zircal have done enough training for today. You’re dismissed.” Mora and Zircal saluted quickly and ran off together. They stopped by the cooking hut to see if there were any pies on the window sill .Unfortunately, there weren’t any. But there were some cakes being baked. Peeking their heads in the window they saw a most wonderful spread of delicacies being cooked. There was apple crumble, soft breads smeared with honey and preserves, and fruit salads that were dripping with honey. They were so busy looking at the food, they didn’t even see the cook raising his ladle. He dealt them both a good whack on their muzzles, saying
“You weren’t thinking of plundering my kitchen were you?” Mora and Zircal sat back, rubbing their injured noses. Zircal answered for the both of them.
“ Oh never! We would never think of eating your wonderful food before it was done sir.” Mora caught on to Zircal’s flattery of the cook and said, winking
“ Zircal is quite right. Eating your food before dinner is positively a crime! Like those heavenly smelling tarts you’re  baking, anyone who is fool enough to eat those before supper should be locked in a dungeon for 50 years!” The cook was always one for flattery. He gave them both some of the tarts he was baking.
“ Well, no harm done. And you two look famished. Here you can each have three of these dark berry tarts. They’re made with Blackberries, blueberries, dark raspberries and dark cherries. What do you think of them?” The two foxes devoured one tart each. Mora answered this time. (Zircals mouth was full.)
“ Mmmmm! Marvelous! Best tarts yet! You can really taste the raspberries and blackberries.” The cook smiled at the two foxes, with crumbs on their whiskers and laughed.
“Well good! Enjoy those and go play, you naughty little foxes.” Mora wiped the bits of tart from her mouth and licked her paw.
“Come on Zircal, lets see if we can find more berries for the cook to make more tarts with.”
“Yeah! Lets go! Maybe we can find mushrooms for him to make a wood pigeon pot pie with. You know how he makes them, all covered in gravy with little bits of chopped mushroom in them and covered in cheese, Ow!” He yelped as the cook rapped the top of his head with his ladle.
“Stop it now, your doing more talking than gathering! Get going!” He said sternly. Zircal nodded and dashed off to join Mora.
Soon the two friends were deep in the forest. They came upon a bush laden heavily with raspberries. They picked as much as possible, eating a few to save room in the baskets for other fruits and wild vegetables. When they had picked and eaten their fill, they moved off. They soon found an apple tree filled with the sweet fruits. They put these in the bags stowed in their belts so as not to crush the berries. Mora was absently munching on an apple when she heard a sound. She signaled Zircal to keep quiet and moved towards the noise. Suddenly, a squirrel jumped out, looking panicked. It’s teeth chattered in fear as it spoke in a frightened squeak.
“Run! Run for your lives! The wolves are coming! The wolves are coming!” Mora seized the squirrel and shook it saying
“The wolves? Where are they? How far away are they?!” The small squirrel squirmed out of Mora’s grasp.
“They are moving through the woods at a fast rate. They should be here in a day, So run if you value your lives!!!!” Mora grabbed Zircals paw and started to run at top speed.
“We have to warn the village, Come on!” They little squirrel dashed off to find a better hiding place. If two foxes could find this one, the wolves would undoubtedly find it.
Mora burst into the village, dragging Zircal behind her. She finally released her hold on Zircals paw, saying
“You warn your mother and alert the warriors, I have to find my dad!” Zircal dashed off in the direction of his hut. Mora dashed off in the opposite direction. She found her father talking to the big fox Galtag.
“Papa! The wolves are coming! They’ll be here in a day!” Firefur looked shocked for a second and then called out
“Attention! All warriors to me!” Soon, all the warriors were gathered in front of Mora, Zircal, and Firefur. Firefur nodded to Mora and she stepped up
“The wolves are coming to our village. They no doubt want to try and overthrow us and make us all slaves. We must defend our home! Who’s with me?”
There came a mighty roar from the warriors.
“Then lets get to it!” Mora shouted. “Sharpen your swords! Wax your bowstrings! Put flights on your arrows! Lets move!” Another roar came from the warriors. When every warrior had a weapon and every female and infant was safely hidden away, the warriors waited for the wolf king and his army. It was a few hours before dusk when they finally saw them. There were a lot of them, but Mora was sure that her warriors could take them. The wolf king was at the very front of his army. He took one look at Mora at the front of the fox army and burst out laughing.
“Hahahahaha! Well would you look at that! A female that thinks she can fight! Why aren’t you at home nursing kits little missie? Hahahahaha!” Mora kept a calm face but inside she was fuming.
‘How dare he! Nobody calls me little missie!’ She walked forward a few steps and stopped right in front of Ekar. Her eyes were hard as diamonds and as cold as midwinter snow.
“I hope you are prepared to die.” Ekar was taken aback by this show of bravery. Most creatures cowered when he looked at them. The vixen stepped back and still glared at him as she unsheathed her sword. As if on cue, The entire fox army showed their weapons as well. Pikes, clubs, maces, swords, daggers, spears, bows and arrows, and slings were showed. Some of the wolves swallowed hard. It was impressive. Mora turned to her soldiers and shouted
“CHAAAAARRRGE!” And the battle began. Mora went in like a whirlwind. Slashing with her sword and killing every wolf she could lay her paws on. Firefur fought just as savagely as his daughter. Foxes and wolves were dropping left and right. Mora was fighting a exceptionally large wolf when she heard a scream ring through the air. She looked over her shoulder and her heart skipped a beat. The wolf king had a dagger buried up to the hilt in her father’s body! With the cry like a wounded creature, she forgot about the big wolf and ran towards Ekar, Her eyes full of fury. Ekar yelped and ran for his very life. The wolves ran with their leader, leaving the village once and for all. The foxes cheered in victory, but their victory was short-lived as they saw their leader on the ground, his blood staining the dirt. Mora ran to him and knelt at his side, weeping. Lady Bloodfur was lead over to where her husband lay. The two vixens wept together as Firefur died slowly. The village healer fox gave him some herbs to ease the pain.
“Mora, Bloodfur, you must be strong now.” he said weakly. “Mora, promise me you will take care of your mother.” Mora clutched her fathers paw.
“I promise I will Papa. And I will avenge your death.” and with a rattling breath, Firefur passed on to the land of greener fields and happier times. Mora and the rest of the village howled as they mourned for their fallen leader.

The next day, a solemn funeral service was preformed for Lord Firefur and the others who were killed in the battle. Mora was unusually stone-faced. She shed many tears, but not a sob escaped her lips. After the funeral she was nowhere to be seen. Zircal decided to go looking for her and found her. She was in the kitchens, putting travelers food in a big haversack, muttering to herself.
“Gotta hurry, they’ll find me. I’ll get away in the dark of night.” Zircal stepped up and said,
“You’re leaving?! Why?” Mora jumped in fright and dropped one of the apples she had been putting in her bag. She looked at Zircal with a look of weakness on her face.
“Please Zircal, don’t turn me in. I was just packing some food for my journey. I’m going to Ekar’s castle to avenge Papa.” Zircal just smiled and said
“Well, you’re going to need more than that to make it to his castle. And that haversack isn’t big enough for the both of us to put our food in.”
“What makes you think you’re going?”
“I’m not letting you go out there on your own. I’ve watched over you since you were a pup. And if you think I’m going to let you go out there on your own, you’re insane” Mora sighed. When Zircal made up his mind, there wasn’t a thing anyone could do to change it.
“Okay. But we have to leave tonight, we can’t let anyone know. Especially not our mothers.”
“Deal.” and so, a deal was sealed between the two friends. They would escape together in the middle of the night and go to Ekar’s castle.
