Phoenix

Rising above the ashes, and embers of tragedy,
a soaring, flying bird of fire, a Phoenix that is she.

She raised two fledglings on her own, with little help from males,
the Phoenix works to raise them both, her techniques never fail.

But with the fledglings growing up, they soon will leave the nest,
she’ll send them off, say farewell, and hope she’s done her best.

Through her years, the Phoenix has fought, through the hardships of life,
and now she’s risen above it all, the suffering and strife.

This fiery bird of which I speak, has taught me many things,
never give up, try your best, and see the good it brings.

But this beautiful bird isn’t really a bird, she’s unlike any other,
this wondrous creature is really a woman, and that woman is my mother.

She raised me and my sister well, teaching us along the way,
I don’t know how I’ll pay her back, but I will somehow, someday.
