Description

Here I wanted to duplicate an old tintype (aka melainotype or ferrotype) photograph (not to be confused with a daguerreotype,) a very old method of printing photos, it involved transferring an image to a lacquered or enameled sheet of metal in either a dry or wet process. It was a fairly fast process done at fairs and things, essentially the closes thing to an instamatic that you could find in the mid 19th century as it took only minutes. Many old west and civil war era images were done in this style.

This is a laser engraving, done on heavy artist paper with 3 coats of paint: white, covered by a brushed amber color, then covered by black, and then the laser had its fun for about 3 hours of burn time.
