Description ..was not the first time, won't be the first time. I believe it is never good to delete something, even if only a few people cared and liked it. Not everything and everyone can become popular but deleting art is not helping anyone.

That's a bit too dramatic, and most commenters on the actual journal seem to agree. But I've been there myself sometimes. Indeed, deleting an entire account doesn't accomplish anything. One ends up regretting it. And here on dA there's always the option of placing deviations in storage. Also, doing something, whatever it is, for popularity is never a good thing to have as a main goal.

Being "popular" isn't that easy, I think drawing by passion is way more important.

That is so sad.
I hope everyone keeps up their passion when they can.
Of course, if life comes up sometimes, it can be tough.

Becoming a popular artist is tricky..
*It often boils down to your personality or the sometimes controversial subjects you cover, rather than simply how good you are.

I've seen many artists give up, because they just get burnt out on trying to please everyone.

Some rage quit when they see all the attention and money thrown at "no talent girls on tumblr" that show their cleavage and take a lot of selfies.

IE: Why are people donating to these girls?.. why do they have millions of followers!?

Others are like me and don't really rage quit, but simply stop posting art because we've moved on to other things/projects.

Personally tho..

To anyone getting into art because they wanna be "popular" rather than because it's something they enjoy.. I'd suggest doing something else instead.

Artists can take days, weeks, months or even years to produce a single project/video/ect..

Things that people can "consume" in a matter of minutes, then discard/walk away from.

And if you try to charge for these things, people will often just pirate or mirror them instead.

Meanwhile, you have bloggers, titStreamers and letsplayers that take minutes to make their "monetized" videos and don't really care about people pirating/mirroring their stuff, because they'll just post another monetized 10 min rant or gameplay vid tomorrow anyways.

tl;dr
Do "art" because it's something you enjoy.
