Description
Musical inspiration (not entirely): Perforated Cerebral Party [PCP] — Play With FireIf you ask the locals how many wars they have had, you can get very different numbers. Including myself, I was mentioning same wars under different numerations, so if anyone was trying to pay attention - this should have been very painful.
To be considered a World War, a war must involve most of the local men and resources - but throughout the history of the Loop, the numbers of both have always varied and almost always grown.
For example, at the time of the loop closing and for some time after, there were only ten people in the entire world. Is the war between them a World War? Technically, yes, because it involved 100% of the population at the time. Although nowadays, a fight between ten people isn't even considered a conflict: "roughly speaking, there are no casualties."
So, views about WWs are divided into two main camps: "the first is the RED/BLU Collective war," and "the First is the People/Mourtair," a post-collective one.
But the problem is also that diplomacy was much more common during the Collective war, because just killing your opponent isn't enough - you need to get him to like your team more than he likes his own team. Maybe it wasn't that much of a war, after all.
Some count the extermination of the Unhumans as a World War too, although the Mourtair did not take part in it, and the People participated in small numbers, forming small specialized groups for this. But this view is unpopular, with most sticking to the numbering that the People/Unhumans does not count: either because of the small part of population involved, or because it is essentially a "prelude" to the People/Spiders, and it is odd to consider it as something separate from this WW.
The war that caused the creation of the Loop is ignored by almost everyone because it didn't start in the Loop, but was the cause of it. For the scale of Earth it was not a military conflict at all, there were only ten people involved, so what kind of puny "war" is that? And it did not start in the Loop, hence it cannot be considered a war of this world, it was outside. But there are individuals who think "a war is a war, we participated in it, it was there, it was real, so it counts." Some just like bigger numbers.
There's a small percentage of People/Guild deniers because they see it as as kind of "fratricidal" - engineers are the same former People after all, plus some of them returned in the course of the conflict.
The war with Trespens is undoubtfully worthy of the title of a World War. But there are those who don't consider it yet, because it's not over. They say that it is necessary to sum up the results first, and then to record it in history. During the war, Trespens attacked People because of the forest fire, but since between America sector and the Walking Forests is the Hive, the situation began to interfere with spiders, and gradually People got out of the conflict, and Spiders joined in, and at the moment Trespens are at war with Spiders. There's a risk of the Mourtair getting involved.
So there is a selfish point of view that the war can already be counted because People are done with it - but there are also those who are waiting for the final end, when both Spiders are tired and the forest fires are stopped, and only then can it be counted.
As a result:
0 - Loop creation
1.1 - BLU/RED people (Collective)
1.2 - People/the Mourtair
2.1 - People/Unnhumans
2.2 - People/Spiders
3 - People/the Guild
4 - People/Trespens/Spiders
You can count up to 7 WWs in the Loop at most, but you can also get only 3. Views differ.
