Description
They were not a crime. They were… a mistake. The idea was to fuse them with the essence used for Stepping, to create a more powerful guide for more dangerous places. Something went wrong, and the essense of lost things became a part of them, and they can do--well, what Kitsirin should not be able to do.
They can lead things astray. That isn’t to say that they will, but this abominable ability is blasphemy to all that we stand for. The only blessing is that we trapped them in kitling form. The thought of a Kitsirin--perhaps even an Elder--able to lead creatures astray, perhaps even trapping at the threshold between life and death…
Let’s not consider it. Let us be grateful for the small victory we managed.

Anomalies are Kitlings whose creation process was somehow flawed. The first were known to have been accidentally created by Duskshoulder, but since then they have cropped up in other places, although at (thankfully) very low rates.
Somewhat wiser and more solemn than most other Kitlings, Anomalies have the dreadful ability to lead lost things astray. Fortunately, as they are limited to Kitling powers, their abilities (as of now) remain limited to living creatures, and none have yet managed to trap an actual spirit.
Not all Anomalies choose to exercise this power. Some even consider it a sort of curse that they must constantly atone for. Some instead lean into it, in spite and in a lust for their own power that separates them from their creators. But the power exists nonetheless, and must be answered for. While some Kitsirin treat Anomalies with compassion, others scorn and hate them--or even fear them.
PHYSIOLOGYAnomalies are instantly discernible from regular Kitlings because of their third eye, which always glows even if their normal eyes do not, and because of the existence of small hard “pebble” scales scattered over their bodies in lieu of regular scales. Third eyes may be any size, from a mere slit to a large circle that encompasses most of the forehead, but are always present and cannot be fully closed. They may also manifest other strange oddities of form--irregular horns, asymmetrical body parts, and other indicators of their unstable energies.
Some Anomalies are also identifiable by a reduplication of body parts--usually a second pair of horns or ear-crests, but occasionally a second tail or pair of limbs, or even in extremely rare cases, a second head or face. It is possible, albeit extremely rare, for Kitsirin to have duplicated body parts, but it has never before been seen on Kitlings, and so this is a surefire way of identifying Anomalies from a distance--which is as close as some care to get. Extremely powerful anomalies--those created by Duskshoulder himself--might have multiple sets of duplicated body parts.
GLITCH ANOMALIES
Glitch Anomalies were the very first batch of Anomalies created. They were summoned into existence by Duskshoulder in an area heavily marked with trail cameras, and it is believed that this tension between “landmarks” and easy-to-get-lost-in territory may have been what caused the Stepping energy to become unstable and create Anomalies.
Glitch Anomalies have a strange aura of static and unstable colors, and may entirely blip out into a matte-black shadow save for their eyes, cheekpads, and smoke. Glitch Anomalies are immensely powerful masters of illusion when in the vicinity of any types of electronics, although something as simple as a cellphone battery dying may abruptly rob them of their ability to mislead and deceive.
Glitch Anomalies have a preferred “type” of Glitch--they may prefer to distort audio on cellphones or radios, create visual tearing in video, ruin photos taken on film or digitally with strange artifacts, or simply jam cellphone signals. While they can theoretically do any of them, they tend to choose one that they enjoy the most and hone their skill on that particularly.
Glitch Anomalies can be robbed of their power by depositing them far away from any type of electronic equipment, but they are quick and instinctive travelers and impossible to contain--and as mankind spreads and brings with him his gadgets, Glitch Anomalies are increasingly difficult to isolate.
Glitch Anomalies were a Patreon exclusive.
