I really like the Captive Prince trilogy, especially the second book. I know it's not a book for everyone because it contains a lot of heavy topics like slavery and sexual abuse. I didn't like the first book because I couldn't understand how it was marketed as a romance. I thought it was one of those creepy teenage novels that romanticize sexual abuse and unhealthy behaviors, but in the end, it surprised me. Maybe in a couple of years, I will reread the books and my opinion will change, and I won't like them anymore. But for now, I recommend it. The first book is really heavy and a little grotesque to read, but the second and third are amazing (in my opinion).
Here's a Damen fan art. I really like his character, but not as much as Laurent's. I don't think he's a bad character, but I believe Laurent is superior (sorry, he's my favorite, haha). Something I like about the book is that Damen's actions are not justified. I mean, the book doesn't say, 'Auguste attacked him, so Damen had to fight back to protect himself, and he didn't mean to kill him,' or 'Auguste wasn't a good person, so his death was justified.' Auguste was a genuinely good person who didn't deserve to die, and because of that, we better understand Laurent's pain after losing him. What I mean to say is that I appreciate Damen's morally grey character (I hope I'm making my point clear haha).
