Description Haley sat in the hospital bed with Gabriel's arms around her, bawling. The doctor walked out of the room and closed the door. Gabriel was trying so hard not to cry in front of her. "Sweetie it's okay…" There was no response, she just cried. "Everything will be alright… we can go home now." That didn't much matter.
"When a woman walks into the hospital in labor, she's supposed to go home with a baby. More than one baby sometimes! Not…" She continued to weep.
"We will, just not this time."
"No!" She screamed instantly, pushing him off of her. "If I can't have this baby I refuse to have another one!" Gabriel just looked at her.
"Haley… this happens… it doesn't mean we can't-"
"No!" She cut him off. "I don't care what the doctor says! If our baby died I'm not having another one. No other one can replace her!"
"That not what I was trying to say…" He was starting to break.
"Get out!" She yelled and pointed at the door. He stood there until she screamed at him again. He went out the door, leaned on the wall and collapsed. He pulled his head to his knees and started crying. Several nurses walked past him without looking down. The door across the hall was open. He watched a woman holding her baby. There was no father in the room, but she was smiling. He sighed and stood up, walking back into the room, Haley was staring out the window. He just stood next to the door and watched as she started to sob, she didn't even realize he was there. A nurse walked in the room.
"How are you doing?" She asked. Haley didn't look at her. "Miss, I think you'll want to take a look at this." Haley turned around and her eyes nearly came out of her head.
"What is that?" She said, almost backing out of the bed.
"Your baby." The nurse had a bundle of blankets in her arms.
"No, I don't want to look. I'm sorry."
"Ma'am, trust me, you want to look." The nurse smiled and pulled the blankets down from the child's face. She had her eyes closed, but she was a bright baby's pink.
"Is she…" Gabriel walked over and stood at the foot of Haley's bed.
"Yes. She's sleeping." Haley started crying hysterically and reached forward, taking the bundle from the nurse.
"Gabriel she's okay." She said. The nurse smiled and walked out of there room
"Can I hold her?"
"Just another minute." Haley held her baby to her chest and rocked her. "I just wanna hold her another minute."
"Okay." He smiled and sat down on the edge of the bed. Haley closed her eyes.
"I never thought I would love to hear the sound of breathing so much." She cried.
"I know." He put his arms around the both of them and kissed Haley on the cheek.
