Description
My version of that groovy chic, Suzie Chan, from the cartoon, "The Amazing Chan and The Chan Clan". Remember that toon? Actually, it was pretty forgetable. I have to say, it had to be the worst animated and storyboarded Saturday morning show of the early 1970's, even by Hanna-Barbera standards. It's too bad, cause it was one of the few shows ever with an Asian cast, and it was slapped together pretty badly. Well, we did get "Jackie Chan Adventures", a few years ago, to kind of make up for it, a little (that cartoon was pretty slick!).
But I had to at least immortalize one of the bright spots from that awful cartoon. Yeah, I guess it's a little silly giving Suzie a bo, but I wanted to have fun with some weapon action. Anyways, hope you dig it!

We need do some sort of Scooby Doo reboot the feels smar.
Similar to theΒ Marvel Cinematic Universe. Revamp characters like the Chan Clan, Jabberjaw and Speed BuggyΒ by giving them a modern feel and going onΒ new adventures.
I can see that Mystery Incorported tried to attempt this idea with an episode where they met the other Scooby Doo clones, but it never went anywhere and was just there for pure fanservice. While other cameos where just put there just for fan pleasing. (Again, shamless fanservice.)
That's the problem I got from Mystery Incorporated, just over the top fanservice and fan pleasing. Sure you can put cameos everywhere but similar to Product Placement (*coughmanofsteelcough8 ) it need to work for the show.
But yeah, if you could make a good Scooby Doo cartoon that can be for both kids and adults. I think it's possible as well as get SO many other of the incarnations revamped like Chan Clan and Speed Buggy. It would be great to see.

Jackie Chan Adventures came decades later, not a few years later. Great artwork on your part.

True, JCA did come decades after Chan Clan, but I was noting that it was a few years ago, from when I posted this in 2008, that Jackie Chan Adventures was on the air. Β Anyways, thanks for diggin' the art!

I remembered her in some Hanna-Barbera's episodes... but the last time that I saw her was in an episode of "Harvey Birdman: Legal Lawyer", so hilarious, jeje
Anyway, good pic...

Nice drawing.
I am Asian-American and was the right target audience age when the "Chan Clan" show was first shown on CBS around 1972. The Chan family characters were cool...they didn't practice martial arts nor did they resemble sterotypical Asians with queued hair, buck teeth, and silk clothes. They looked like the Scooby Doo gang in investigating mysteries and playing rock songs. They were identifiaible as "all-American kids" living in suburbia. Charlie Chan the dad would usually come up with the correct deductions to nab the real culprit (usually theft, kidnappings, and robbery...no murders on Saturday AM tv). The 10 kids, Charlie Chan, Choo Choo the dog, and various suspects, cops, and innocent bystanders in each episode made for a crowded cast.
It would have been fun to see an updated version of the show and learning what the 10 kids are doing now (growing to be cops, private detectives, practicing martial arts, and try to help Charlie Chan solve crimes) with more personality background stuff.

Thanks for your insight on the show. I was born too late to enjoy the show's original run, but I remember it on reruns in the late 70's, and lately thanks to Boomerang! Updated versions of the kid's, eh? Sounds interesting. If it ever happens, they better hire better talent to storyboard and animate the series! Anyways, thanks! Glad you dig it!

The Chan Kids, just for the heck of it:
Henry- The number one son. Serious-minded in investigating crimes. Usually teamed with Stanley.
Stanley- second oldest son. Comedian. Usually bugging Henry with his wisecracks. Likes to disguise himself...badly.
Suzie- oldest daughter. Fashion plate. Not much personality.
Tom- wore glasses and used big words.
Anne- tomboy. Wore baseball cap. Voiced by Jodie Foster.
Alan- inventor. Created the everchanging Chan Van.
Flip- likes to use police jargon and hard-boiled detective novel cliches in his dialogue
Nancy- overweight. Scared.
Mimi- youngest daughter. Likes to boss around little Scooter.
Scooter- youngest son. Overeager.

I remember that show and you're right, it was pretty cheesy, but then again, so was pretty much most HB cartoons of that period. Suzie was one of the few reasons I watched it.
I'm currently writing a story for DA inwhich Suzie, along with Velma Dinkley and Penny Gadget, goes up against the Hooded Claw. And she's gonna be pretty close to the way you depict her(plus a few other surprises, heh heh heh).
Your version is awsome, with the anime look that goes good with the chartacter.

Glad you dig it, buddy. Yeah, keep me up to date on that project. I'd love to read your interpretations of those characters in team-up action! Penny is an interesting choice to partner up with the HB classic chicks, so it adds to the intrigue.

Real snazzy, dude!
I've enjoyed that show whenI was a child. Suzie Chan is one of my favorite female Asian characters next to Jade Chan, Musa from the Winx club, Numbuh 3 from Kids Next Door and many female characters in anime. It's enough to give a guy a case of dragon fever (dragon fever is like jungle fever. Dragon fever is when you crave an Asian.) And once again, retrorobotboy, you did an amazing job with this character. I would like to know. Do you take requests and commissions for your art work? Because you do great work.
A fine job on this character.

Man, I've been suffering from dragon fever for years, but I never knew what it was called. Thanks for the info! Glad you dig the Suzie action. Hmmm, never been asked about a request. I guess I could do a commission if I was asked. Flattered at the thought, and glad you dig it!

boy, as much as i love Hanna Barbera, you are right about this cartoon. actually i never understood with all the difficulty to bring these toons to the screen and lack of money, why they always seemed to create these shows with huge casts?!?!?! i mean they could hardly animate the 4 main players in Hong Kong Phooey, let alone an 11 member main cast and everyone else!! whatever
