Alright, I guess. Under a lot of school pressure and sending application to this and that art school, ahah.
It's mostly just juding I do for the IPL at the moment, at least until summer or fall depending on wether or not I get in anywhere/move to another town c;

Uh, probably too much info

No worries!

Cool though, good luck on getting in somewhere! Was there any school in particular that you're hoping for? or just hoping the shotgun application will stick to one?

Ahh I see! People still cranking out interesting stuff over there?

I'm hoping for the most part on a spot on the BA studies Visual Communication at Bergen national university of the Arts [link]
That or a spot on the BA studies Virtual Art and Design at Hamar college university [link]

And, yup, people are still at it c; There's a couple o' more realists there now I've got mixed feelings about realistic pokΓ©mon...

That first one has some awesome sounding stuff in it! I wish you the best of luck then.

Ahh, well that's good to hear then. I see, I guess Leashe's DD attracted quite a few of them haha. I agree, actually. You can only take realism as far as your real life references allow you, anything beyond that and they risk looking forced and kinda wonky.

Thanks, man c; So you took printmaking classes? What techniques did you venture in to?

And yeah, it did attract a few, but not as many as I feared. Lately all the admins been too busy to properly keep up with updates.
I'm all up for giving them the perception of feeling real by giving them proper textures and shape (apply a bit more anatomy to dem basic shapes), but there's a time when they stop being pokΓ©mon, yanno?

I've taken one yes. We only worked in wood and linoleum during it though. However I'm taking the upper level printmaking course this up coming semester and supposedly there's some etching involved. I'm quite excited!

Ahh I see, well perhaps thats a good thing in some cases XD.

Yar, detail never hurt anybody. I agree though. But surely there have been other artists join who just apply their own style instead no?

Oof, scraping in wood isn't much fun, neither is linoleum but at least not as tough and frustrating. Darn splinters and that only certain parts of the wood bulges when applied color to. Oh man, etching is super fun c; Ask after aquatint technique when the class comes up. Dry-point and mezzotint is also something I would reccomend looking it to, though they don't involve any etching.

There's been a couple c;
Making (for example) a Growlithe actually look like a dog and not a Growlithe or a Roserade to look like a bush of roses is imo taking it a bit too far c;

I wasn't a fan of wood myself either ><. Its a wonder I didn't stab my fingers like 80 times. I'll keep those in mind! I'm still fuzzy on the process behind etching in general but if it's better than stabbing wood for a few hours then I'm already stoked haha.

Ahh I see, haha. the Roserade bit sounds hilarious actually. Does someone in IPL actually have that one?

Oho, someone in my class stabbed herself at least twice during our two or three week long introduction course in printmaking. Not bad for that period of time, though! It's pretty tiring to scrape of wood and frustrating when the fiber suddenly gives way and the iron goes half-way across the piece of wood, creating a canyon in its wake! Oh man, furious times.
If you're going to use copper plates (since that requires one of the weakest acids to etch) it's going to be a breeze. All you need to do is preparing and stopping out the ares you don't want to etch away. Be it with wax, permanent markers, that powder they use for aquatints or just plain ol' stop-out c; I usually use brown tape on the back of the plates to keep the acid from burning through.

lol seriously, though, this is a masterfully done piece. Even though we all know that fire beats out steel, you did a great job of portraying both sides in an equal light. Also, the creative freedoms you took with the designs on both Steelix and Rapidash are awe-inspiring. Good job! Steelix is my favorite pokemon, and you did him justice.

Well, that certainly is one dimension above your average Pokemon battle! Collateral damage!

(Always wondered how in the games they managed to confine all their damages to one square)

And the only moves going down here are wrap and stomp haha.

I don't wanna think about what a hyper-beam would do

(must be related to the poke-ball technology somehow!)
