Backstory: 4 years ago, Mai was a part of a group of shinobi acting under the daimyo of Sanjo Castle. This group consisted of her, her fiance' Sasuke Kurodane, his general Mishida Mitsurugi, and the Kiyoteru Family. One night, she found a note from an enemy agent revealing the location of the ninja that killed her fiance's master and sister. Determined to set things right for him, and to end the issues of impending war, Mai heads off after the ninja under the cover of darkness, running away from her friends, marking her destination at the grand city of Edo.

Personality: Mai is usually very quiet and kind to those she meets, showing her meek side more often than not. She would rather talk things out than start a fight. When challenged, however, Mai is very determined and a tad stubborn, not giving up until she has achieved her goal.

Style: Mai herself learned how to fight with a spear from Portugese lancers, and incorporated that with various Shinto dance rituals to create the Rolling Contact Spear Style. This particular method of fighting features elaborate loops, wide swings, and dizzying counters, patterns that are more defensive than offensive.

A special move in her list is the Screaming Spear Bell. Whenever her yari comes into contact with either an opponent's weapon or hard ground, the tsuba of the spear will vibrate. By twirling the spear after contact, the spear will create a sharp, painful sound that dis-orients opponents [the sound is similar to a tuning fork].

Mai also has a special counter called the Grande' Sentinel, a series of maneuvers where she has her spear on her back while she spins like a ballet dancer. While doing this, most aerial attacks are blocked or riposted, and the spinning creates a much smaller target for mid-level attacks.

Overall, Mai's technique allows her to fight by using attrition to her advantage, only striking when the enemy has left an opening, yet striking defensively so that every opening counts. Her style renders her near immune to ranged attacks and aerial strikes, moderate defense against mid-level strikes, yet leaves her open to attack from the ground [i.e. a heavy sound that travels up from the ground or a leg sweep].

Likes: Mai clearly loves her fiance', proving time and time again that she would kill for him. She also has a loving bond with Shinto rituals, possibly from her background of being a Miko. Being from a military background also gives her a love of weapons and armor, which is ironic considering she's as peaceful as she is.

Dislikes: Her time with both samurai and shinobi taught her the value of honour, and she bitterly hates those who disregard such a virtue. chauvenists are a dark spot in her eyes, and rapists she would be happy to cut down. Mai holds a shared grudge with the ninja that ruined Sasuke's life, and will stand against the clan the ninja holds ties to: the Gen-Bu Ninja Clan.
