this was made a long time ago just uploading now that I've made some more technically.
Most programs greyscale incorrectly by simply desaturation, which is wrong.

I forgot who made the tutorial but in your art or editing software, make a new layer, fill it with #FFFFFF white, then set the layer mode to Color. This works in Aseprite and Photoshop
Colors typically have an inherent value to them that can be seen by the eye, brightness is a more colloquial term for what Artists call the Value, as in, Hue, Saturation, Value.

Yellow, Cyan, Green are the lightest colors,
while Blue, Red and Magenta are the darkest colors.
