Description On the left, feeding on a corpse, is a common star-runner. Star-runners are starfish-like terrestrial predators descended from a group of spherical organisms which, uniquely, had 12 extended mouths at the corners of an icosehedron. The star-runners have 5 legs which end in sharp-clawed feet which contain the mouths, as well as organs that sense and produce vibrations in the ground, which are used for communication. In the centre of the body, underneath, is the anus, which excretes a mixture of urine and feces, like a bird. On top of the body is the head, which is featureless apart from 5 eyes around the head. The eyes are similar to tetrapod eyes, except without a cornea, and with the iris being part of the surrounding flesh. Between the legs and head, alternating with the legs, are the reproductive organs, which are also used to allow air to the lungs. They are hermaphroditic, and reproduce by spreading tiny, spherical, aeroplanktonic creatures that are around 5mm across, and composed of 10 fins around the body, a lighter-than-air gas-bladder, a simple gut, and packet of both sperm types. The reproductive organ is a self-directed limb with a simple brain, an eye like that of the head, and a hand. The organ sits in its slit, and when a reproductive aeroplankton passes by, it swiftly reaches out and grabs it. It then sucks it into the reproductive/respiratory ring, pushes it to the ovary, and then uses an internal stylet to rupture the sperm packet and absorp the sperm. The zygote then develops internally, in the oviduct, until it is born as a tiny adult, where it is cared for by the parent.

On the right, watching the star-runner, is a leonine karapkoid. They are related to the karapka, as their name implies. While most karapkoids, including the karapka themselves, can leave the water and walk on their hands and tails, the leonine karapkoid is fully terrestrial, and is capable of running at high speeds. They mainly hunt large, fast prey, which keeps them out of competition with the star-runner, which mainly hunt more agile creatures, although they will also scavenge for food.
