Description
A native of the planet Gygax, Jenbellis enrolled at Red Fountain in order to ditch her parents and their none-too-subtle efforts at convincing her to marry the scion of a well-to-do merchant under the excuse of "finding herself". Now a freshly-minted Specialist, this young half-elf strives to protect her home against evil with the aid of her lightning rifle and kukri. While Jenbellis' backstory may have been easy to cook up, she was actually extraordinarily difficult to create on the grounds that trying to make heads or tails of Winx Club lore regarding the mechanics of fairies, witches, and Specialists proved an utter pain in my experience. Or to go in more detail…
Point 1: Fairies seem to be their own "race" in the D&D sense. Simple enough, we can roll with it– and since Gargoyles seemed to operate on the same principle, there's minimal reworking needed when it comes to the likes of Oberon and Puck.
Point 2: Witches also seem to be their own "race" in the D&D sense. If I'd been doing a simple Winx Club fanfic, I could roll with that too, except for one tiny detail– Briar. More specifically, her being a witch in a similar vein as the ones from, say, The Craft. With the Trix (and presumably other witches), this proved somewhat easy to remedy by making them some other "race" (again in the D&D sense) who learned witchcraft at Cloudtower.
Point 3: The Specialists. Figuring out how these guys worked in terms of D&D-style "race" was where I was tugging at my hair and was tempted to break things, as the Winx Club wiki was less than useless in this case. Were they fantasy-style humans? Some other type of fae? If there was any official statement as to the matter, I never found it. Eventually, I threw up my hands and figured that since all the members of the Winx Club itself came from various planets within the Magic Dimension, I figured that statistically, there had to be at least one other than Earth that had humans, and thus the planet of Gygax was born.
As for Jenbellis herself, she's probably not going to be in "More Things in Heaven and Earth" itself– more likely, she'll be in a spinoff fic describing where Caleb is during the events of the first few arcs.
