Description I’ve built a wall around the city!
No doors or gates in sight.
No one’s going in or out.
We’re an island for tonight!

No one to build our buildings,
or capture our precious gold.
No one to shame our pride and girth:
our fears have been consoled.

I’m so proud of this fortress.
I feel save within its grasp,
because no one out there can hurt me, now,
I’ve locked the cryptic clasp.

I lie alone and say it’s right:
that I’m better off this way.
I’d rather be save within these walls
than have my heart ripped away.

Oh me, oh my!  What’s this?
I hear a tearing at my dark hotel!
I can’t let go, not yet, don’t ask!
I’m not ready to lose this protective shell!

You want to love me: I see your eyes,
I see it in your stare.
But how can you ask so soon, so soon,
for me to jump into thin air?

I need my walls; for even bleak
is safer than your roam.
Your romping soul could swallow me whole
if I stray so far from this home.

Please understand my resistance.
This dark solitude is all I know.
How could I ever love you back
if I’m afraid of letting go?

Hah! I have a VERY similar piece titled "crimson castle" in my gallery. I liked your take on fear of loving where I just made a point of the self-destructiveness of hate. I thought it was kinda creepy to see the similar paths that this poem took to my own even though we have never met or seen eachothers work previous to this point, I suppose some feelings really are universal! I can't offer any suggestions on words or flow, but I can say that it was an enjoyable read from beginning to end, and I'm glad you made poetry that rhymes!
