Born in 1859 as Friedrich Wilhelm Viktor Albert von Hohenzollern, Wilhelm ascended the throne as German Emperor (Kaiser) and King of Prussia after the death of both his father and Grandfather in 1888.During his reign he maintained the role of an interventionist monarch, acting as a mediator in domestic conflicts between workers and business owners. He also enacted various bills improving the situation of women and children on the labour market.
After the Great war he was granted asylum by Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. He died in exile in castle Doorn in 1941, aged 82.
