Once upon a time, it was 2018, the year of Spider-Man's Renaissance. It was the year when not only two great stories on Spider-Man have emerged (Insomniac Games and Into The Spider-Verse), but also when Nick Spencer (infamous for Secret Empire) reunited Peter Parker and his dearly beloved Mary Jane Watson as a couple after 11 years of getting screwed (to a limited extent). As I was searching in instagram for inspiration to improve my drawing skills, I came across this couple under the account name "mj_and_spidey".

The account peaked my interest; and I asked the owner(s) if they're a couple in or out of cosplay. To my surprise, their answer can be summed up as "yes". Given my passion for the character and the lore that defined him, and learning about the cosplay couple's exploits and history, they instantly became my visual reference when it comes to drawing Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson; and we even follow each other on Instagram. Not only have they felt honored to be used as reference in my tributes, they also sent me a gift as a sign of appreciation. (It is in the link below: www.instagram.com/p/B5omOSFD17… ).

Alas, given Marvel's series of stupid decisions, my enthusiasm that Peter and MJ (the redheaded confidante) would truly reunite brought out my frustrations and cynicism to the extent of vitriol. Eventually, I asked the couple a personal question: "What do they think of me?". Their answer came in a form of some "short novel", but the summary is that while the couple appreciate and understand my passion, they do not want to be caught in the stream of vitriol. The best they can suggest is for me to cherish what was established, and to apply what inspired me out of Spider-Man to help me use my gifts and move forward.

Touched by their concern (about two times), and learning that it's the couple's anniversary, I went out to create this piece which can be worthy in a Spider-Man comic (that actually respects the Original and Classic Webhead).

For personal touches on the piece, I have Peter Parker kissing his wife without the mask as a sign of trust; the Spider Costume is modeled after the renderings of Alex Ross in the Classic Spandex; and I gave Mary Jane Watson-Parker a lovely set of curves. And to make the gift even special, I included the line from Stan Lee in the Insomniac Game.
