There's nothing wrong with replying to a persons comment. What matters is whether you're doing it to be rude or not. Don't reply to someone just to start wank because what you write/say on the internet is in ink you can't take it back.
Considering the time it took you to read through all of the comments on that picture, find mine, think of your remark to it, and post it: you could have thought to yourself "is this really necessary?" Not especially. It can and often is taken as a rude, thoughtless, and haughty statement. You could have said the same thing differently and not come off arrogant.
