Description In 1848, as the Chester to Holyhead Railway (later part of the London and North Western Railway/LNWR) entered Conwy, engineers under the supervision of Robert Stephenson had to cut through the medieval city walls to fit the double-track main line and railway station into the city.  To maintain the traditional style, the workers built a Gothic arch over the railway, which fits the 13th-century architecture and looks as if it has always been there.
