Reciprocating the Japanese influences on George Lucas's Star Wars series, Bandai has created a series of figures giving Star Wars characters a feudal Japanese aesthetic. Samurai taisho Darth Vader and a pair of ashigaru stormtroopers were for sale at the Yodobashi megastore in Akihabara. Once the ashigaru got muskets, they were able to use infantry tactics and volleys of gunfire to defeat the samurai, which has a historical parallel to the stormtrooper tactic of mass laser fire overwhelming the Jedi knights' lightsabers during the Great Jedi Purge. Once Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu instituted the Bakufu, the samurai fought less and became military governors. I suppose the Star Wars equivalent would be if the Galactic Empire had appointed Sith or Dark Jedi to govern different regions of the galaxy. Perhaps the Inquisitors are close to that idea....
