These fragments of New York City's World Trade Center, which was destroyed by an Al-Qaeda terrorist attack, have been put on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History (Washington, D.C.) in remembrance of September 11, 2001. New York City was not the only place affected by this terrorist attack; so were Arlington, Virginia, home to the Pentagon; Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where United Airlines Flight 93 was forced to crash when the passengers fought the terrorists; and countless cities around the world whose sons and daughters never returned home.
