Description
This large building near the Strand is the George's Dock ventilation and control station for the Liverpool end of the Queensway Tunnel under the Mersey River. Like the rest of the tunnel, the station and its twin on the Birkenhead side were designed by Herbert James Rowse and decorated by Edmund Thompson. Opened by King George V in 1934, the Queensway Tunnel has been seen in movies such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and The Fast and the Furious 6. I wonder if the station has also been shown in any movies and TV shows, as its Art Deco industrial style stands in sharp contrast to the nearby Victorian, Edwardian, and modern architecture and reminds me a bit of Metropolis or Bioshock.
