Description Passenger train operating company First Great Western (FGW) has revived the identity of the old Great Western Railway (GWR).  Perhaps the new GWR could raise its profile in the eyes of railfans by restoring and running the most famous GWR steam locomotive, Churchward 4-4-0 No. 3440/3717 City of Truro, which is generally recognized as the first locomotive to exceed 100 miles per hour.

A nice engine, but the 100mph record was never confirmed to belong to the City of Truro. It never achieved any such speed under proper testing, whereas the confirmed 100mph record breaker was the far larger and more powerful LNER A3 Pacific Class 'Flying Scotsman' designed by Sir Nigel Gresley, who went on to design the A4 Pacific class, of which Mallard is the fastest Steam locomotive ever built with a confirmed record speed of 126mph.

I hope City of Truro is repaired. I hate to see engines being unreliable and static.

It'd be nice for her to run again! A record breaker doesn't deserve to sit on display like that.
