Description
LOFLYTE (Low-Observable Flight Test Experiment) was a NASA/U.S. Air Force program to develop a hypersonic "waverider" aircraft. This wind tunnel was built by the Wright Laboratory and tested 191 times at NASA Langley Research Center in Virginia. Having demonstrated the airworthiness of the airframe, LOFLYTE developed an unmanned jet-powered plane controlled by a neural net computer, which flew at Edwards AFB in 1996. The NASA X-43 Hyper-X plane (which was designed by the father of a middle-school friend!) flew at Mach 7 in 2004, and the Boeing X-51 Waverider is under development. The wind tunnel model is on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force (Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio) next to the world's fastest supersonic jet plane, the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird spyplane.Related content

This looks like the annex hangar at Wright-Patt! Spent so much time in there, both growing up... and then later on active duty, haha. Small world.
Lovely pic and write-up <3

I wish we'd built President Reagan's 'Orient Express' hyper-liner.
